Translational Medicine's first major national science and technology infrastructure completed

The first major national technological infrastructure of translational medicine was officially completed in Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine. This is the third national-level facility to settle in Shanghai after the Shanghai Light Source Facilities and Shanghai Protein Center. It is also my country's first national-level facility in the field of biomedicine. It will directly launch a scientific impact on key health issues.

In recent years, medical innovation and transformation have attracted much attention. The country has deployed translational medicine research facilities in Shanghai, Chengdu, Beijing, and Xi’an, forming a translational medicine research support network covering major regions of the country. As one of the 16 major scientific and technological infrastructures that have been prioritized during my country's "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, this launching ceremony marks that the transformational medicine facilities have officially entered the stage of leading the medical industry and developing at full speed from the comprehensive construction stage.

Ning Guang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and dean of Ruijin Hospital, introduced that this facility is the first major scientific facility in China that integrates clinical medicine and basic research. It will focus on major and key technologies in the diagnosis and treatment of major diseases in my country, with emphasis on tumors and metabolism. In the fields of diseases and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, research related pathogenesis and laws, and solve major scientific problems in the occurrence, development and outcome of diseases. Through the establishment of systematic, large-scale, and integrated scientific facilities, translational medicine research from clinical practice to basic research, pharmaceutical product and technology development, and back to clinical practice is carried out.

After the launching ceremony, experts jointly unveiled the Chinese Clinical Innovation Cooperation Center of the European Society of Blood and Bone Marrow Transplantation, and held the award ceremony of the "Translational Medicine Award" and the "Chen Jialun Xu Manyin Education Fund". Ruijin Hospital has signed cooperation agreements with seven leading companies in the pharmaceutical industry, including Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Group, Fosun Group, and Cinda. It will focus on the research and development of translational medicine technology to further enhance the leading advantages of both parties in the medical industry.

A translational medicine forum was also held on the same day, led by Chen Saijuan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the National Major Science and Technology Infrastructure (Shanghai) of Translational Medicine. The medical and health undertakings, especially the inheritance and development of translational medicine, provide advice and suggestions.
